‘Enough Is Here’ is a critical analysis of Anti Blackness/Africanness throughout the Pan African community. The zine highlights common ideas weaponized against Pan African folks and breaks down the absurdities within said ideas. In taking ideas and breaking them down piece by piece Sabaa hopes spectators can take a moment to think critically about what they accept as fact. ‘Enough Is Here’ also provides questions one can ask to support the strengthening of their critical analysis skills.

I will be on stage or in the audience exploring different pieces of the zine and asking audience members to answer questions provided within the zine. I’ll be the only one performing the piece, that is if you don’t count the audience.

About Sabaa Zareena

Sabaa Zareena (they/them) a current Onyi Ozi Fellow, utilizes film and visual arts as a means of engaging spectators into intentional action. Sabaa gives spectators the opportunity to participate with the work and tap into their own critical analysis of the realities they accept and the ones they can create.

Their most recent works in progress include “The Deserving Kind” which premiered as a part of the Performing Arts’ winter 2019 RAW residency with SAFEhouse. The multimedia piece combines their short film “Seeing Love” and movement work. It asked audience members to explore the reasons we seek validation, where we can find redemption in personal narratives, external connection, and human faults. The sibling project in development “The Deserving Kind: A Web Series” is a collection of interviews where participants answer the question “How did you come to know you are worthy?”. The interviews echo themes of isolation and evolution through trial and error. Their current multimedia incubation project, Everyday Talents Collective, seeks to create visual guidebooks on how to remember one’s power and thus empower those within the community. My hope as a filmmaker is to contribute to the destruction of our current reality and create anew from a place of intersectional pro-black womxnist and trans earth stewarding lovers of self.
