5 Reasons to Take a Writing Workshop. Part 1

Most times if you’ve read something good that hit you in the chest and made you go >>> then it probably had all 4 of those things. A lot of times you may have a gift but if you don’t harness it, it won’t build to a talent, and if you don’t work on it you won’t develop the skills, and if you don’t make time and strategy for it, then you may never execute a goal or project. That’s why we create this AUSverse, to support your gifts, talent, skill and execution. That said, if you need reasons why you should take a Writing Workshop or Class, here are FIVE to start with:

Focus

If you’re keeping it real with yourself, you know that if you don’t make time for it, it just won’t happen. Taking a writing class gives you time to focus on writing for a committed period of time. If you do this, then you have the chance to flex the fact that you a Writer Writer!

Commitment

Bruh, them pages are not gon’ write themselves if you don’t commit. So basically, like with anything worth doing, if you say you’re going to do it, then take some real steps, meet it at the altar, put a ring on it! That way, you know that if other folks have me on notice, then you REALLY gotta make this happen. That’s what your friends, facilitator, and other writers in your group will do for you.

Learn from the OGs.

Yes you have your own voice. Yes, you are mad creative and talented. But there’s always something to be learned and workshop teachers offer you useful advice and constructive criticism so you don’t make common mistakes and you for real, for real can discover your personal style.

Put your Limits to the Test

Sharing your deepest, darkest, funniest stories with people who have writing chops and experience, allows you to get initial reactions to your materials. Also if people clown you, or say they don’t like it, then you know, and you start building that tough skin, and be grown about it. Because yeah, we artists and sensitive about our shit.

Enjoyment

Not gon’ lie, even as difficult as it may seem sometimes, the experience of Writing can be fun! The games, creative exercises, role play, material review, all those extra quirky things the instructor makes you do? They help push you to discover parts of yourself and your writing you may never have known.
