Afro Culture Kids Camp in Lagos
By Kanukai Chigamba & Lindiwe Msimang
Simba kuvana. Power to the kids!!!! Come rain. Come Nigerian Heat. Afro Culture Kids Camp-Lagos was the place to be. Afro Culture Kids Camp is a community-based outdoor Pan-African arts & culture camp catered to kids ages 5-16 of African descent. Our camp is full of music, dance, art & crafts, healthy cooking, games, storytelling, languages, outdoor play, and nature/garden exploration. Kids enrolled in this camp are excited about learning new skills, being creative, making and keeping friends, and having lots of fun.
For the days of April 16, 17, 18, 2024, the kids explored different stages of the harvest season through Igbo, Yoruba, Idoma, & Shona songs, music, dance, cooking, arts and crafts. One of our camps goals is to always send the kids home each day with a new phrase in a different language from what they already speak.
We wouldn’t have been able to provide a safe space for our kids without our amazing Lagos Facilitators

“What I particularly found interesting at camp was the food, it was my first time ever trying this dish and it was delicious. I’m not sure what it was called but it’s very similar to ugali but it was a Zimbabwean ugali” - Ibhawaegbele Osemudiamen Victory
A must see POC theatrical musical this fall at Berkeley Rep
