Pan Afro Urban Youth Intensive Performance
By Lindiwe Msimang & Kanukai Chigamba
Legacy, Le Legacy, we don't play about our Legacy”
This summer’s Pan Afro Urban Youth Intensive in San Francisco was nothing short of life changing experiences.
The youth got introduced to Song Writing by Keidra On Stage and made a song titled Legacy. They worked hard from learning the different genres, verses, hooks, and the business side of making a song. In addition to songwriting, they worked on three styles of dances. They learned Hip Hop and Caribbean inspired movements from Ebonie, Turfin from Christopher aka WavyMuu, and Afro Dance from Kanukai.
All the hard work led to the final performance, “Rooted in Memory, Al love letter to SF Black Families” at India Basin Shoreline Park in Bayview, SF.
From the delightful song and love letter poems to the vibrant dance routines, the youth brought their best, demonstrating not just the skills learned in three weeks, but also their passion for performing. The joy and excitement on their faces were contagious, spreading smiles throughout the family and friends that came.
We are incredibly proud of all the participants and grateful to the parents, Coach Lilla, Ebonie, Keidra, Christopher, Nkeiruka, Kanukai, Rob, SF Foundation and California Arts Council for making this possible.
Excited for what's coming next!
In my ideal life, I speak up to 100 African languages. I write lesbian erotica in any language of my choice and its translated 100 ways. I drive only red cars everywhere I go. I eat a perfectly high vibrational diet of fruit and raw veg. I live on a mountain overlooking the ocean. I travel the world from tropical beach to tropical beach hosting Lesbian Love Fests. I am insanely rich off of my words!
